Give your bedroom a design makeover for a better night’s sleep

We’ve all been there; you just had a long, exhausting day and all you want to do is to crawl back into bed and relax, but when that beautiful moment arrives, you’re unable to shut off and fall asleep. Thus begins a night of tossing and turning. It’s very common to experience changes in your circadian rhythm, especially as you age. People often experience these changes as disruptive or distressing to their lifestyle and comfort. Experts have discovered that your bedroom has a lot to do with the quality of sleep you get each night. So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to put some of our design skills to the test and create the perfect sanctuary for a better night’s sleep.

Get Comfy!
There’s no such thing as a bed that’s too comfortable. You should load up on soft blankets, crisp sheets, fluffy pillows, and plush comforters. A comfortable bed can help you relax, fall asleep, and stay asleep longer.
Dim the Lights!
Have you ever walked into a room with intense fluorescent lighting and thought, “Hey, I could really go for a nap right now?” No, you probably haven’t. That’s because the more light there is, the less sleep we get. To facilitate healthier sleep, try installing soft or low lights in the bedroom. Consider purchasing blackout shades or heavy drapes to block sunlight from seeping in.
Keep the Colors Cool!
Colors can dictate the mood of any room. When determining the color of your bedroom, look for cool colors, like blue or green. These hues have been proven to reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, and improve quality of sleep. Warm colors, on the other hand, like purple and brown, should be reserved for the family room or kitchen, as they stimulate the brain.
Spritz some scents!
Research has shown that scents have incredibly positive effects on the mind and body. Pleasant smells, such as lavender, vanilla, or jasmine, can decrease blood pressure, lower heart rate, reduce stress, and enhance sleep. Next time you’re winding down, power up your sense of smell for some instant relaxation. Light a candle, turn on an oil diffuser, or burn some incense.
There you have it: re-decorating your bedroom is not only fun, but it can be good for your health. Remember: it’s normal to experience changes in your sleep habits as your you age, but a little bedroom makeover may be just what you need.
